Runner's highs are the best. Of what I read about the runner's high, there is no clear definition since not everyone experiences the same feelings. For me it is that edreline rush I feel once I hear that gun shoot off, giving me the feeling I can conquer the race. I think that's why runners get better times in races than when they practice. In training there is no excitement and not much mental talk. If you train and don't go that fast, there is always next workout to do better. In racing, you only get one shot. I know I mentally coach myself a lot when I'm racing. If no one's cheering for me, hell, I cheer on myself or think of someone who's passed who would be proud of me if they were watching. The other day, I did a test run for my race today and ran 5 miles in 39:15. I figured I could do the Clearwater 5 miler in 39 minutes. Today I shattered my goal and ran in 37:32 which is a 7:3o mile...I think that's my best average mile race time ever. I was so excited. I even got 1st in my age bracket and 19/228 overall. I'm so glad I can run like that and run in general. The announcer said think about the people that aren't well enough to be able to run...so very true!!
I challenge you to a race...not me against you but you against yourself. Start with a 5K (3.1mi)-see if you can do it. Remember, every runner had to start from the bottom and work their way up. Start out alternating running and walking. Gradually build and you'll see all that hard work pay off. You'll feel that runner's high and then be hooked for life. I know I am :)
Since I ran by myself, I took some pics after I got home with my tripod. I know kinda lame...but better than nothing.
