Fulfilling a childhood wish

Kickin it with converse- don't you like how the pink shirt goes with the shoes?
they may look like clown shoes, but I love them... not as much as Penny though

I think everyone can remember that one thing (or two) that you had to have as a kid. You wanted that thing so badly you would have given anything to have it. For me I wanted a Barbie ice cream shop or maybe one of those life size cars you drive, or Nintendo, or maybe simply a pair of converse sneakers.

When we visited my Bubbie and Pop Pop in Philly, my family and I would always go to Phil’s Shoe Store where we got our sneakers and dress shoes. I recall this one time (and I can’t remember how old I was), I looked at the back wall of the store and up on top shelf display was the pair of shoes that caught my eye. They were a solid color converse high tops with a splatter paint design. They were so funky; I had to have them. So I asked mom and dad and I think their response was, “it’s not practical, or you can’t wear those to gym class.” Like I knew what practical was, please mom and dad! After pleading and probably pulling one of my notorious tantrums, those high tops went back on the shelf. I still remember that to this day. Well about 11 or 12 years ago I think it was in middle school, the all star converse came back in style. I wanted them, but again, who was going to pay like $30-40 for fun shoes that couldn’t be used for gym, not mom and dad.

After discovering Penny’s (Parker’s mom) obsession with converse, I knew I had to finally (now that I’m making the real Benjamins) buy myself a pair. I caught myself at the shoe store thinking, “Amy are you really going to spend $40-50, you really need some new work dress shoes more.” I was doing the same thing as my parents dang it!! A few months ago, Penny bought me my first pair of converse sneakers with cats on them. I felt like a little kid getting an ice cream from the ice cream man. I love them!!

Fast forward to the present… a week or two before Parker’s niece was born we all guessed the baby’s weight and length. I came closest with the weight estimate. I think I may have had an unfair advantage with my nutrition background but oh well. So I won the “prize” and got it yesterday when we had dinner with Parker's parents. What type of prize you ask, why more converse low top sneakers of course. Penny got pink stripped ones to match my new pink stripped polo as well as black the ones .

After twenty some odd years, my childhood wish of being a converse shoe wearer has been fulfilled. I love my new sneakers and have already worn them to work!! Thanks Penny!
