Hurricane Hype...What a Joke!
So I survived my first "hurricane." I use that word lightly because it was hyped up way more than it really was. I think it was a "tropical storm." Please, we have worse rain storms in NJ and they don't use some silly buzz word like "tropical storm." Life also doesn't just come to a screeching halt. They were ready to close school for two days and we already had a plan if workers were rained in at the hospital. To me this was equivalent to a dusting of snow in the winter. Now I know that some of Florida had it worse than us, but don't scare us for NOTHING. I like to compare hurricane warnings to bad rumors. Days before thes storm, our lunchtime conversation at work went a little something like this, "so I heard the hurrricane is going to go up the coast and be a cattegory 1. No I heard that it's going to hit Ft. Meyers and weaken so we only get winds. I heard it's supposed to hit south of us and then head east towards Orlando. " I JUST WANTED TO SCREAM AT THE TV FORECASTERS, "MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND ALREADY!! BECAUSE OF YOU I HEARD 3 DIFFERENT STORIES AT WORK AND NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE." I have to admit I was one of those idiots that went food shopping but I can't say I was frantic. I bought some water to have just in case. But other people I saw were loading up on bread, frozen dinners, eggs, etc. Where is the common sense here people, if the electricity goes out how are you going to cook those eggs or those frozen dinners? Think about it. Now there is another one, Gustave which is near Haiti. Just when I thought were in the clear...he we go again. No scares yet, but I'll be hesistant to believe them this time.
