here ye, here ye

This weekend continues the Gasparilla celebration that us us Tampans know and love. Today was the Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K fun walk/run and the 15K and tomorrow is the 1/2 and full marathon. Between the 2 days, there are an approximately 20,000 participants running along the various courses overlooking Bayshore.

The adventure began yesterday after work picking up my and Parker's numbers for the race. Getting to South Tampa during rush hour on a Friday=nightmare. Better yet, all they had was meter parking or $5-$10 lots since there was a special event down town. I tested my luck and put a quarter in the meter, after all that was all I had. The walk was quite a ways to the Convention center to get registered and I wasn't exactly wearing the right shoes. In walking back, I kinda forgot where I parked. Okay, so now I was scared, it was starting to get dark. I had some idea because I remember surroundings better than street names. Nearly an 30 minutes or so later and a couple panicky phone calls to various people I found my way. Better yet, no ticket on my car. Thank you G-d!!

So onto today and the 15K. The weather for the race was just gorgeous (sunny skies, 60s to mid 70s). I finished the race in about 1 hr 13 minutes, way below my goal. I hope to do some longer races in the future. Next was Parker's 5K fun walk/run. We had a great time and got tons of pictures and free giveaways. Until next year...
