Farewell FutureCare Homewood

Last week, I said good bye to my job and the people I worked with at Future Care Homewood.  I was there for almost 11 months.  It's hard to find a job that you really enjoy and then have to leave it.  Sometimes it was like having 140 or so surrogate grandparents.  You get to to learn the resident's querks, what they like to talk about, their favorite foods, and who comes to visit them.  Long term care definitely has its good and bad points.  It's easy to see when my work has made a difference whether it be desired weight gain or loss since residents stay for an extended period of time.  Since I worked in a very large and busy facility, work days usually flew by.  Our managment team was very close knit and worked well with each other.  I definitely will not miss all the food complaints I had to deal with that really was out of my hands or the MDS 3.0 assessments I had to do on the computer for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement ( I used to liven that up with listening to my iPod).  I will miss work but look forward to getting my MSc in Human Nutrition and Metabolism at University of Alberta starting in Fall 2012!
Who says you can't have fun at work

Me with Karen, our Weight Coordinator- probably one of the best nursing assistants

Elijah(Assitant Director of Nursing), me, Gina (Director of Nuring), and David (Administrator).  Some of the nicest people I've worked with

Meet Georgie, the Director of Nursing's dog.  He's a Maltese Poodle. Gina would bring Georgie to work a lot.  All the staff and residents love him.

that's my buddy

I could always count on Georgie for a big greeting when I walked in to work in the morning
