Edmonton- Festival City

They don't call Edmonton the "Festival City" for nothing.  This summer has been beautiful, warm (most days), and full of festivals.  Each weekend they have some type of festival in town.  You name it, we've got it- Taste of Edmonton, Klondike Days, Sand on Whyte, Heritage Festival, and Folk Festival just to name a few.   Sand on Whyte featured international artists that sculpted huge sand sculptures in the middle of town. These are not what you'd typically see at a beach competition.  They use a different kind of sand and then actually apply a sealant so the sculpture won't crumble in the heat or rain.  You will see below they were magnificent.  That day was also the Art Walk.  This event consisted of hundreds of artists set up in the Strathcona section of town to sell their artwork (ie. sculptures, paintings, and jewelry).

We also had many day where beautiful sunny skies gave way to showers.  We saw the most brilliant rainbow I have seen in a while a few weeks ago.  It was a full one that extended over the entire sky. Unfortunately one side didn't last very long but the other one had such intense color.
