Racing Weekend

Last weekend Mitch and I had two successful races.  On Saturday evening was the 10K night race that started at the Legislature Building and went through several trails in the river valley park system. The race started at 9:50pm and we were required to run with this headlamp as seen below while we were running.  The course was lit by lanterns as well as all of our head lamps.  I had been training since June starting with 3 miles and gradually increasing each week.  My goal was 53 minutes and I shattered that.  I felt really good so I went a lot faster than I could even imagine.  My time was 50:45.  I got 3rd place in my age bracket and 38 out of 349.  I was very happy with how I ran and even stuck with one of Mitch's buddies who also did the race.  The next morning Mitch did a sprint triathlon (750m swim, 20K bike, 5K run).  Mitch signed up for the 10 K first but since he got his new bike he wanted to do the tri the next day (not a whole lot of sleep going on that weekend).  This was the first triathlon I had ever watched.  It was really cool watching the transitions and how fluid some of these athletes were. It kind of made me want to do one but I guess I have to get a road bike first. I've also had some aches and pains with running that I will be starting PT for.  I guess one thing at a time right?

yeah you know you want to wear one of these
