I missed a month...must be the grad school thing

The month flew has just flown by without me realizing it.  I have been busy with my Nutrition and Cancer class and literature reviews for my thesis.  School is challenging but good; different from working.  It's really hard not to procrastinate.  Don't worry I am not procrastinating now.  I finished class on Thursday so I only have my research to be working on; it could wait.

On November 17, we celebrated my 30th birthday. Mitch and I went to the Melting Pot (only found out they had this in Edmonton through my hair dresser).  We got the full four course meal: salad, Wisconsin cheddar fondue, salmon dinner, and a turtle chocolate fondue.  It was so good; the last time we went was when we got engaged so this was quite a treat.  Mitch also surprised me with roses at the dinner table.  Last weekend, Mitch and I went to the West Edmonton Mall Water Park as another birthday present.  It was so awesome and really big for something in the middle of the mall.  This mall we have near us is crazy- water park, seal show, amusement rides, bingo room, comedy club, and casino and not to mention all the shopping stores.  You can spend a whole day there without trying very hard.

The weather here is so cold.  When it is in the 20's-30s we are happy. We haven't seen that in weeks. I think I now know what Grandma went through living in South Dakota.  We are down to the teens and single digits.  I had to think about it because I always see the temperature at the train station in Celsius and today it read -14.  We were supposed to get dumped with quite a bit of snow but we got lucky and only got a dusting.  I'm learning that Edmonton is not that snowy it's just so damn cold.  It did snow 3 weeks ago a lot (6-8") and the snow and ice are still there.  It's just too cold for it to melt.  It's quite a different way of life up here.  Now I know why Canadians love their summers.

So we've been finding things to do indoors to keep us busy.  I had a final yesterday that ended at 7:30pm, so I got tickets to see Paul McCartney play at the local arena.  Mitch couldn't go because he's been diligently taking French classes.  He's been studying hard and doing well with it.  With my 5 years of Spanish and a semester in college and his French we'll be okay if we decided to go to Europe this summer.  But the concert was so great- I appreciate Paul McCartney even more than ever after watching him sing, play guitar, and play piano. I truly great entertainer, singer, and musician.  If he is doing his tour in your city, I'd highly recommend it.  If not, I have included some pics I took with my super sweet Nikon DSLR camera and zoom lens.  I had nose bleed seats so the zoom lens was very helpful
