A little belated..Labor Day weekend or should I say Labour Day?

Even though we have lived in Edmonton for 15 months now, Mitch had never been to the Canadian Rockies. Since I loved Jasper, AB so much last month when I went with Sarah, I decided Labor Day weekend would be the best weekend to take him there.  It was so warm and sunny.  We explored a lot of trails that I had not done the first time.  We visited Mt. Edith Cavell and the Angel Glacier and took about a 10K trail that explored all around the glacier.  This was a beautiful glacier with a waterfall coming from it.  There was some low ground that people went on to get close to it but there was a huge piece that fell last year and it caused massive flooding so we weren't taking any chances.  This was by far the most spectacular hike.  We did some trails in the Maligne Lake area where Mitch spotted a bear about 50-100 ft in front of us.  We was walking away from us so all I got was a photo of his butt- always safety before photography.  It was scary at one point because we lost sight of the bear and we were on low ground so we had no idea if the bear was above us.  Luckily we talked loudly and it got off the trails so we could go back to the trail entrance.  We went to Maligne Canyon as well.  In the evenings we walked into town for dinner and enjoyed a beautiful evening.  Mitch even brought some sparkling wine to enjoy on the balcony of the hotel.  What a guy!!  On our way home, we stopped of for a few hours at the Miette Hot Springs which is a hot spring that is cooled to 104F.   What an great holiday weekend.

just your average day in the national park

this was Medicine Lake which is completely dry come fall.  See previous Jasper post just 1 month earlier.  You can see how much it's receded.

walking stick didn't last very long

and there's the bear, no zoom showing how close we really were

looked like a black bear from behind but through the trees I'm not sure

Angel Glacier

marmot...first time seeing this guy; they look like skunks
this gives you a good perspective of Mt. Edith Cavell as well as the glacier and waterfall

a somewhat blurry and dark picture of us is all we have of the weekend, oh well!

a trail we hiked near the glacier

friendly little chipmunk
we didn't see the sign not to feed wildlife until we fed this guy a few peanuts

were people were advised not to go in case there was cavving (falling bits of glacier).  We heard some cavving twice but didn't see it
at Maligne canyon...set the camera to a fast shutter to stop water.  You'll see the one below is one with a slower shutter blurring the water moving.
