Family Trips

Having a newborn doesn't stop us from going, seeing, doing, and enjoying our short Edmonton summers.

The first of our trips was to the local Devonian Gardens.  It is maintained by the University of Alberta's Faculty of Agricultural Life and Enviro Sciences (my department).  I had only been there for a winter event as well as a reception but never really got to walk around much.  The Japanese and rose gardens were my favorite.
We took Ian on his official first far away "day trip" to the Calgary Zoo this past Monday.  Mitch took off from work for our family fun day.We left at 6:15 am since it's a 3 hour drive there and back to get in a full day.  We said the trip was for Ian but we all know the trip was really for our enjoyment.  It's still important to spend time together as a family. My favorite were the penguins- they had King, Gentoo, Emperor, and Humbolt penguins.  They by far had more species than I have ever seen at another zoo.  Mitch liked the rhino.  After the zoo, we drove through Red Deer and had dinner at my favorite Mexican Restaurant that we went to the week of my birthday when we stayed at a B&B.  This time I was able to have a margarita...oh how I missed those during pregnancy.  All in all a fun trip :)
